Alessia Russo has once again proven her worth on the pitch, being named England's women's player of the year. The 27-year-old forward, who previously took home the award two seasons back, has had a standout performance this season.
In the current campaign, Russo has been instrumental, playing in all ten matches and netting five goals. Recently, she contributed significantly by scoring the third goal in England's 3-1 victory over Greece during the first leg of the 2027 World Cup play-off semi-finals.
The Arsenal star edged out Chelsea's Lucy Bronze and Hannah Hampton in a fan-voted selection for the prestigious award. Expressing her gratitude, Russo said, "To receive the award is really special, particularly as it comes directly from the fans. I am so grateful for their support."
She also acknowledged her teammates, emphasizing that the achievement is a reflection of their collective effort: "A big thank you also to my team-mates - it is always about the collective."
Looking ahead, England will face Greece again in the second leg at Leicester's King Power Stadium on Tuesday, aiming to secure their spot in the World Cup.
