Ronaldo Faces Punishment After Explosive Clash with Portugal's Coach
19 October 2026
Cristiano Ronaldo is in hot water after walking out on the Portugal national team, and now he's facing consequences for his actions. The legendary forward has been suspended for 30 days and slapped with a £215 fine following his unexpected exit from the training camp in Copenhagen just before a Nations League match.
Ronaldo's decision to leave came after he was left on the bench during the previous game, sparking a fallout with new coach Jorge Jesus. The 41-year-old captain alleges that Jesus broke his word regarding his place in the squad, a claim the coach has firmly denied.
In a twist of accountability, Ronaldo requested disciplinary action from the Portuguese Football Federation. He expressed a desire for no leniency, detailing the events leading to his departure in a lengthy statement.
As one of the highest-paid players globally, earning approximately £488,000 a day with Al Nassr in the Saudi Pro League, Ronaldo’s actions have certainly drawn attention.
Looking ahead, Portugal is set to face Denmark in the Nations League on November 14. However, the Portuguese FA's statement didn't clarify when Ronaldo's suspension would take effect. If the ban is backdated, he could be available for upcoming matches against Denmark and Wales, leaving the decision to coach Jesus on whether to include him in the squad.
Ronaldo's last outing for Portugal was a narrow 1-0 victory against Wales in Lisbon back in September.
